Maintenance Guide

Whether colored lacquered mail-through letterbox or the stainless steel letterbox - above all noble material wants to be maintained. Even normal environmental influences can cause soiling up to surface changes. Therefore, weathered parts must be periodically cleaned to obtain the stainless steel, ALU anodized or powder coated / painted surfaces.

Surface cleaning of letterbox systems

To ensure that you enjoy your design letterbox for as long as possible, we urge you to take regular care with commercially available products. For cleaning is suitable warm water with additives such as household cleaners or the like. Then rub dry and rub with car wax. Acid-containing, oxide-dissolving, acetone-containing, probylencarbonate-containing or mechanically acting cleaning agents must not be used as they attack the surface. We recommend a regular cleaning as well as the sealing with car wax as needed.

Cleaning in mailboxes made of stainless steel

To remove any residue, the stainless steel mailbox must be cleaned after installation. The cleaners must not contain any hydrochloric acid, chlorides or hydrocarbons. We recommend a regular care of your stainless steel mailbox with common means. Experiments in our house have shown that in terms of cleaning effect, preservation and ease of use makes such as Weicon, Chesterton, Ambruch, Cillit, Enablitz, Stahlfix and 3M can show good results. Under no circumstances may steel wool, steel brushes or the like be used during the stainless steel cleaning, as such aids injure the protective surface and allow the formation of extraneous rust through abrasion. We recommend our special Renz stainless steel cleaner, which you can order at www.renz24.de.

Correct treatment for a mailbox made of aluminum

Oxidizing or mechanically acting cleaning agents must not be used as they attack the anodizing layer. Attention! Protect aluminum parts from cement, lime, gypsum, etc.! Attention! Under no circumstances may steel wool, steel brushes or the like be used during cleaning, as such aids injure the protective surface and allow the formation of extraneous rust through abrasion. Filiform corrosion: In installations close to the coast or areas with aggressive air (industrial waste gases), so-called filiform corrosion can occur, especially with coated aluminum parts of a letterbox system. If this problem is feared due to the location, an alternative, such. B. Material stainless steel V4A, ALU anodized, or a special pre-treatment of the parts (pre-anodization) can be planned. Please ask your responsible Renz adviser. Inadequate cleaning and care of mailbox surfaces as well as damage (scratches) of the surface coating may favour filiform corrosion.

Mailbox lock

Please only maintain the cylinder lock with graphite or a special lock care spray. So you enjoy a functioning Renz mailbox lock for a long time. The best way to clean and maintain letterbox door hinges is twice a year.

Bell contacts for integrated bell buttons and bell systems

A mailbox with bell buttons or a pure bell system requires ongoing maintenance and care. At least once a year, the contacts should be cleaned by a specialist and treated with contact spray. In this case, it must also be checked whether the required operating voltage (electrical voltage 12 V max.) Is sufficient.

Acrylic glass and plastic surfaces

Individual mailboxes usually have special equipment and therefore require special care. For example, acrylic glass (Plexiglas) and plastic surfaces must not come into contact with organic solvents such as thinners, alcohols, fuels, etc. Also, glass cleaners usually contain alcohols. To clean such mailboxes use only clear water with a few drops of dishwashing detergent and a soft sponge. Dust should never be wiped dry.
